The Twins & Their Nursery Sneak Peek!

As I had mentioned in previous blog posts, my pregnancy has rattled us with one surprise after another.

Surprise #1 - last summer, we were informed that we would need InVitro Fertilization in order to even get pregnant...

We were fortunate enough to get pregnant on the first round, and finding out while vacationing with my family in Maui was awesome!

Surprise #2 - After finding out we were pregnant, we were told for weeks that I was only carrying one, when in fact, I was carrying TWINS!

In January, we managed to sneak in one last trip to NYC to visit my brother and his girlfriend...

And only days after my two baby showers....

...came Surprise #3 - the totally unexpected 4 weeks of hospital bed rest - ugh. At least the dogs got to come for a visit!

And Surprise #4, our final surprise, came only days after I was sent home from hospital bed rest. At  33 weeks pregnant and 4 weeks away from my scheduled c-section... I went into labor!

Yes, it's official, we are now proud parents of twins!

Needless to say, they are still in the hospital, but we hope to have them home soon. In the mean time, I am putting a few final touches on the nursery, so I'm hoping to have it posted within the next few weeks. Until then, I thought I'd share my final nursery mood board with you as kind of a sneak peek.

I didn't end up using any of the fabrics from my previous nursery posts...But I did stick with the furniture layout which I posted about HERE. I'm going to go ahead and blame my indecisiveness on my pregnancy hormones :-)

I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as I wrap up all of the finishing touches!

And for those of you who have recently inquired about services...I am back from maternity leave in August, but I am booked with "in home" clients until January 2013. However, I do have openings for online design boards starting in mid August, so please email me if you are interested! Emily@awelldressedhome.com

And although I am officially on maternity leave, I do plan on popping in from time to time to expose some of my recent projects, which I posted about HERE. I am hoping to be able to get them photographed within the next month or two.

Nursery Plans: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly...

I cannot believe I'm doing this, but I'm about to introduce you to the room in our house that will eventually be the twin's nursery. Why can I not believe I'm doing this?? Because the current state of this room is what my husband refers to as "the man cave." Now I have no problem with a man cave, as long as it's done tastefully....this one is not. It's basically an extra bedroom filled to the brim with sofas from his bachelor days along with guitars, amps, random pieces of furniture and a 50" flat screen (which he tried to tell me was going to stay in the room even after it becomes a nursery...ha, yeah right).

Anyways, the reason I've decided to show it to you is because I want you to see the space that I'm working with as well as the furniture layout and preliminary plans I came up with. So here goes...don't judge us...

So there you have it..... told you it was bad!

The door on the far right is a small closet. Once everything is cleared out of the room, I will have a contractor come in and wall off the niche on the right, in front of the closet (which you can't really see in these pics) to create a much larger closet.

Then I will have built ins installed on the television wall to house toys, books, stuffed animals, as well as a much smaller television which will be closed off by cabinet doors.

Here is a rough furniture plan I came up with...

I like the idea of walking into the room and seeing the foot of the crib with a dresser/changing table in between...like in this picture...

The room is fairly large at about 11'w x 19' d. So I like the idea of having a "sleeping area" at the back of the room and a "play area" at the front of the room. This is my initial plan, knowing me, it could change several times over the next few months.

Although I feel sure I won't change my mind about extending the closet or adding built ins...in this house, storage is key. I love the built ins in this nursery...

I'm also thinking about adding some wainscoting to the room... I am in love with the wainscoting as well as the color scheme in the picture below... But I probably won't commit to a color scheme until I find out the sexes.
