Thank you all so much for all of your kind comments on Our Farmhouse Renovation Part 1! Today I am revealing our Cabana, which is about to get some serious use now that it has finally stopped raining here in Dallas!
As I mentioned in the last post, when we purchased the home there was a sunroom on the back side of the house that faced the back yard. What in the world was I going to do with a sun room? Unfortunately, after we moved in, it became the catch-all for random furniture pieces, rugs, kid's toys, etc. In other words, my worst nightmare.
It faced the back yard and since we were lacking space in the back yard, I decided to open up the room and make it an extension of the yard. Sort of an outdoor living room, if you will.
Here is a "before" photo from when we first bought the house...
The sunroom is the room with the 2 sets of windows directly behind the tree. We ripped out the deck as well as the tree and opened up that entire wall of windows.
Here is a shot of the inside of the sunroon when the previous owners lived here. The windows on the left are the ones that you see directly behind the tree in the photo above.
Here is the transformation from sunroom to cabana...
I ended up purchasing the majority of the furniture from Ballard Designs and I've been really happy with it.
We added a beadboard ceiling, which I may end up painting at some point for a pop of color. I also plan on adding a couple of sconces on either side of the mirror...just need to find the right ones.
We added a fireplace, which we really look forward to using in the winter. I'm excited to decorate the mantel with Christmas decor for the Holidays as this is the only fireplace we have in the house.
So there you have it! From a completely unused space to a charming little extension of the back yard. What do you guys think?!
