Before & After: Stella's New Nursery!

When we moved into our new home, we decided to put each of the twins in their own room. Even though I loved having them share their "Gender Neutral Nursery" in our previous home, I knew that they would eventually need to have their own room. Annnnnnd, let's be honest....separating them sooner than later IS a great excuse to design 2 new nurseries! ;)

My budget only allowed me to do one nursery at a time, so I decided to start with Stella's as I already had a clear vision of exactly how I wanted her room to look. Oddly enough, before I had kids, I imagined that if I ever had a girl, I would design a super chic, glam and sophisticated nursery for her. But I felt like Stella's room needed to reflect her personality...she is very gentle and reserved (most of the time) and has the sweetest little personality, so I opted for a feminine design with a soft, sweet color palette. And as a nod to the style of our new home, I also decided to incorporate cottage-esque elements into the room.

Here is a photo of the space before we bought the house:

The. Room. Is. TINY!! 10ft x 10ft to be exact, so it doesn't allow for much furniture.

And as for the "cotatge-esque" element that I wanted to incorporate in the room.... well, I decided to add 8" horizontal wood planks to the walls for a farmhouse feel. It took me about 2 weekends to complete, but I'm proud to say that I did it ALL on my own (minus some touch up painting, which my husband took care of for me). I love the contrast it provides from the dark hardwood floors.

And although the room is still a WORK IN PROGRESS (hence empty frames on the wall, etc), I'm relieved to have at least one room in this house that is more than 50% complete! (And please excuse my amature photos, yikes!)

My favorite elements of the room are the planked walls and the washed out floral  fabrics... I'm really loving the beige pom-pom trim on the drapes as well! But I think Stella's favorite part of the room is the view!

I love the feel of this room so much that I ended up having additional pillows made to match the 2 in the crib so that when Stella transitions into a bed, she'll be able to keep all of the existing elements of the room. When the time comes, we will remove the glider from the corner of the room, slide the nightstand over to be under the window and replace the crib with a full bed.

And as a side note, the wall opposite the foot of the crib has a small antique dresser and mirror set that is about 100 years old. It was actually the same dresser that I had in my bedroom when I was a little girl, so I was excited to be able to use it in Stella's room. I didn't include a photo because it's not quite styled exactly how I want it yet, but hopefully I'll have a chance to do that soon.

Client Project Reveal: Baby Kate's Nursery

Well, I have officially been called out on my lack of posts lately (thanks, Julia - I'll try to post more, I swear)! The truth is, we - are - slammed. If August doesn't end up being the death of me, I'm not sure what will...but more on that next week. The great news is that we have several installs coming up, so we will have a lot to share!

Today we are stopping in to reveal Baby Kate's nursery. Kate was born in May......... actually, Kate was born 10 months after her Mom and Grandmother, who I've known for years, stopped by to meet my babies last July. I recall a mention of baby fever while Natalie, Kate's Mom, was rocking my little boy, Beckham.....so it was no surprise to me when I received an email several months later announcing her pregnancy and asking for us to design her nursery! :-) And I was thrilled to learn that she was pregnant with a girl!

The Momma to be took me by surprise with her requests for her baby girl's room.... While her style is generally very contemporary and minimalist, she was requesting soft pinks, ruffles and crystals! I was in heaven!

While I love everything about the room, I'd have to say I am head over heals in love with the crystal wall sconces and the butterfly mobile...so whimsical! baby Kate is sure to enjoy her luxe nursery for years to come!

We'll be back next week with more project updates!
