Client Project Reveal: Pearson Home Office

Happy New Year everyone!! I know, I know, we're half way through January already... But things have been busy, so this is our first post of 2014!

If you're a loyal reader on the blog, you know of the Pearson Home by now... We were fortunate enough to design their Living Room..... their daughter, Hadley's Room.... and their son, Reid's room. We also designed their home office as well, and we're excited to share that with you today.

This particular room was a challenge as it needed to fully function as an office, however it also needed to be tailored and sophisticated as it is right off of the entry, making it one of the first rooms that you see when entering the home.

Here are the "before" photos of the space...

Those mustard brick walls and tin ceiling were frightening to say the least. But we loved the stained glass and the leaded detail in the windows, so we really wanted that to shine.

I still swoon over the metallic paint that we selected for the ceiling. I love how the sheen highlights the details in the tiles.

We opted to give the brick walls a fresh coat of white paint allowing the windows and ceiling to take center stage. We also had the small built-in cabinet under the window redesigned into a credenza which houses all of their electronic components, files and supplies.

Such a cozy little ready nook...

Thanks again to the Pearson's for allowing us to take over your home for so many months. We had such a blast working with you!

Found on Craig's List...Antique Desk

Sooooo...I am still consumed with designing my new home office. My first step was to come up with a color scheme...white, grey and pink...check! This weekend I was on a mission to find a desk. I wanted something antique and super feminine. Something with a lot of character that I could paint bright white. It needed to be on the smaller side since this is going to be my office / guest bedroom. Here is what I had in mind...

....but...I wanted it to be slighting more feminine with a bit more storage.

While perusing Craig's List for the perfect piece, I found this great little antique makeup vanity. The size was right and the shape was feminine and unique. I immediately called the owner and picked it up today for only $200!

Now I know what you're thinking...it SO low to the ground! But I have a solution for that....I plan to remove the casters and add about 8" to the legs to bring it up to a standard height of 30".

As it turns out, this piece was made in 1930 by a furniture manufacturer right here in Dallas....only a few streets away for our house!

Don't you love all of the detail?

The best part is that for an additional $200 I came home with  matching dresser which I am going to use as a nightstand next to the bed.

This office is going to be quite the project....I can picture exactly what I want, but making it all come together will probably take several weeks as I am having custom drapes and pillows made, etc. Either way, I plan to keep you updated on the progress!

Pretty In Pink

So I have decided that I need an office in our home. I am tired of writing blog posts in bed and working on client projects at the kitchen table! I need a space where I can be inspired, work and keep my business organized. The problem is that our house only has 3 bedrooms, which might seem like plenty of room for only 2 people, but it's not...trust me. And because we just had our kitchen remodeled, we aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Our master suite is located upstairs along with an open area at the top of the stairs which my husband considers "his" office (and he's made it clear that he's not sharing!). And one of our spare bedrooms is considered his "man room" and contains an abundance of seating and a larger than necessary flat screen (if you ask me).....but I guess that's fair since the rest of the house is decorated to my liking. I had to give him something, right? ;-)

So the other spare bedroom is a guest room, and since we rarely have overnight guests I'm considering turning this room into my office / guest bedroom. The only items we have in there so far are a black four poster bed and a flat screen television, so I pretty much have a blank canvas to work with. An added bonus is that the room has a spacious closet, so I can easily store unsightly craft supplies, projects, etc.

I've been thinking about a color scheme for the last several weeks and for some reason I keep coming back to the color pink! This is very out of character for me as I am usually all about the blues, turquoise, etc. But this time I am picturing a volume of white....white bedding, white draperies, a white desk.....a hint of grey.....and different shades of pink! Just like the picture below!

Here are some of the spaces that I have been admiring over the last few weeks...

I love the white walls in the room above, but my walls are already painted a light shade of gray which I think will still work.

I love the pillows on the bed above...I might just have to recreate them!

All of that storage space sure would be nice...
