Freshening Up for Spring + Design Promo!

I love redecoring my home in the Spring...even if it just means new sofa pillows or accessories around the living areas. It just feels like the right time to freshen things up a bit.

This Spring I have decided to add a fresh pop of color to the inside of our home (which is still a work in progress, so no pictures just yet!). I am, and probably always will be, a neutral, monochromatic kind of girl, but lately I can't keep from coveting anything and everything cobalt blue! I just love the fresh feel of it especially layered over crisp white walls (which I have plenty of in my house)!

cobalt and white
cobalt and white

Rather than bring in the color with fabrics, I've decided to bring it in with ceramics, glass and china. I love the idea of piling blue and white dishes on the white open shelving in our kitchen. I think it will look great with the white subway tile backdrop. And I can't wait to get my hands on some antique ginger jars such as these:

I mean, seriously, this photo is everything to me. The champagne frames, ivory walls, distressed console table, weathered lamp bases and mounted horns....along with these gorgeous Chinese ginger jars...Love. It. And I also love the fact that it feels collected, which leads you to believe that each one of those jars was purchased on some exotic travel adventure.

2012! Bring. It. On.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Unfortunately, I have not had the energy to blog as regularly as I'm used to...my morning sickness has just been too much to handle. But luckily I feel that the nausea might be coming to an end, and it's a good thing because I have SO many projects that I need to hammer out before these babies come! My first project, which I've been thinking about for months, is the twin's nursery. We found out the sex of the babies right before Thanksgiving... Can you guess? One BOY and one GIRL! We are very excited to have one of each! Since then, I have been collecting fabrics, ideas, etc for a gender neutral nursery, and I'd really love to hear your opinions!

My initial idea was to do a vintage-esque, shabby chic-esque, beach cottage-esque design. In my mind, that consists of aquas, linens, and a touch of natural elements. Oh, and a touch of gold to glam it up a bit! So here is a snap shot of option #1...

Nursery Option 1
Nursery Option 1

But after living with the samples for a few weeks, I started to get tired of the "bird" fabric. I thought it might be too vintage, and my husband pointed out that it was very similar to the pillows that we already had in our living room. So in option #2, I replaced the bird fabric with a solid aqua fabric.

Option 2
Option 2

The paint sample on the right is the existing paint color, which I had planned on changing, but I feel like it works with the fabrics. And while I love the subtlety of the colors and fabrics, I felt like this combination might not be bold enough... So...here is what I came up with for option #3...

Option 3
Option 3

I love the charcoal zebra print! To me it's a bit more glamorous than the zebra print in option #2. And again, the paint sample is of the existing paint. I also incorporated a tone on tone houndstooth to add a bit more pattern to the room. BUT...is this color combo too masculine??I figured I could add a feminine touch with mercury glass, crystals, mirrors, etc. Even a touch of pink in an accessory on her side of the room might work. And remember, my interior doors are painted black, so that will add to the sophistication factor.

Oh, and here are a few items that I plan on possibly using in the nursery as well...

So what are your thoughts?? I have GOT to get this nursery nailed down so that I can stop stressing about it!

Another project that I will be focusing on in 2012 is the "forever home" of one of my very first clients! I am soooooo excited about this project as I am working with them on selecting all of the finishes for the home as it is being built from the ground up. Construction starts in March and we have already selected most of the flooring, counter tops, plumbing, etc. When the house is finished in the Fall, I will then help them with soft furnishings. To give you an idea of the style of this home, check out a few of our inspiration pictures... Oh, and try not to fall out of your chair...

EXTERIOR: Gray Stucco, and yes, we plan on incorporating that stunning oval window!

INTERIOR: I mean, really? Can it get more beautiful than this?!

I will be sure to keep you all updated on this project as we make progress...It's sure to be a jaw dropper!

In the mean time, I'm also working on a nursery for girl twins as well as a handful of online design boards. So I guess you could say that my resolution for 2012 is to kick it into high gear so that I can successfully complete these projects before the babies get here! Wish me luck!

Think PINK!

I hope everyone had a great holiday!  I (obviously) took some time off from blogging to enjoy the holidays.....but I'm back and I'm very excited about what I received in the mail last Friday - the fabric samples for my new office! Yes, 2 weeks later and I'm still obsessing! I ordered the fabrics from premierprintsfabric.com which offers an array of fun prints in happy colors. I knew it would be the perfect resource for my new PINK and white office! Now I'm having trouble deciding on the exact shade of pink...decisions, decisions....

At first I was set on "candy pink / white," which is this very bright, bold pink...

But now I'm really leaning towards the "Poppy Pink" fabrics below. The color is a bit softer and a little less adolescent...and I think it would be great paired with pops of hot pink accessories...

I like that this striped fabric contains a touch of the "candy pink" as it allows me to accent the room with touches of that color.

So what do you think? Candy Pink or Poppy Pink?

Frugal Find of the Week! Octopus Triptych

Giuliana DePandi and Bill Rancic Home

I had so many positive responses to my post on the Octopus Triptych. I was delighted to see that so many of my readers seem to love it as much as I do! A couple of you even pointed out that you had seen it in the dining room of "Giuliana & Bill." I had noticed it in their home as well...gorgeous, don't you think?!

{image via costal-style-living.com}

Clearly Giuliana & Bill have the means for a $4,000 piece of art. But for those of us that live in the real world....check out my latest Frugal Find of the Week!

I found this replica on

for only $34.99 per section...totaling less than $105! While the colors aren't exactly the same, the aqua is kind of fun....and you could always bring in more navy blue by framing them with thick navy blue mats.

That's it! I've been staring at this amazing piece of art long enough! I - have - to - have - it!

If you read my blog on a regular basis, you know that I have a slight obsession with beaches as well as fantasizing about my future beach house! ;-) I love everything about the ocean...especially the variety colors it reflects...but also the amazing sea creatures.

So the first time I laid eyes on Lord Bodner's Octopus Triptych, I just knew I had to have it!

Don't you agree that it will go perfectly in my new office? So do I! But you're crazy if you think I'm going to pay almost $4k for this beauty...stay tuned for my frugal find of the week!

Here are a few other spaces with art work that incorporates sea creatures...

Pretty In Pink

So I have decided that I need an office in our home. I am tired of writing blog posts in bed and working on client projects at the kitchen table! I need a space where I can be inspired, work and keep my business organized. The problem is that our house only has 3 bedrooms, which might seem like plenty of room for only 2 people, but it's not...trust me. And because we just had our kitchen remodeled, we aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Our master suite is located upstairs along with an open area at the top of the stairs which my husband considers "his" office (and he's made it clear that he's not sharing!). And one of our spare bedrooms is considered his "man room" and contains an abundance of seating and a larger than necessary flat screen (if you ask me).....but I guess that's fair since the rest of the house is decorated to my liking. I had to give him something, right? ;-)

So the other spare bedroom is a guest room, and since we rarely have overnight guests I'm considering turning this room into my office / guest bedroom. The only items we have in there so far are a black four poster bed and a flat screen television, so I pretty much have a blank canvas to work with. An added bonus is that the room has a spacious closet, so I can easily store unsightly craft supplies, projects, etc.

I've been thinking about a color scheme for the last several weeks and for some reason I keep coming back to the color pink! This is very out of character for me as I am usually all about the blues, turquoise, etc. But this time I am picturing a volume of white....white bedding, white draperies, a white desk.....a hint of grey.....and different shades of pink! Just like the picture below!

Here are some of the spaces that I have been admiring over the last few weeks...

Hooked on Chevron

I have always loved a chevron pattern. Even when I was a little girl, I used to marvel at chevron patterned wood floors in older homes.... These days this pattern is being used to make a more dramatic statement in rooms such as these... I am in awe of these black and white chevron patterned drapes....

Frugal Find of the Week! Lantern Pendant Lights

I have received several compliments on the pendant lights that I used in our kitchen remodel. I found them for an amazing price, so I decided to feature them as this week's frugal find! I originally considered purchasing the Hundi Lantern from Pottery Barn.....

Deck the Halls with Paper Flowers!

Our Christmas tree is finally up and  accessorized! I really surprised myself this year by going in a TOTALLY different direction with my decor. I have never been one to go the traditional red and green route…. In fact, before I got married, I wrapped my tree in feather boas and adorned the branches with these fun little black and white numbers… Bustiers, High heels, Hand Bags, Beads, Crystals, Rhinestones….you name it! If it was black and white and feminine, I was making room for it on the tree!

2010XMas11
2010XMas11

These whimsical ornaments were perfect when I lived in my black and white “Bachelorette Pad” high in the sky above downtown Dallas! But my taste has changed. And while I still love the idea of a non-traditional tree, I wanted something different.

I’m sure you’ll remember the post I wrote a few weeks ago about my trip to Laurie Anna’s Vintage Home in Canton, TX…. Well the vintage inspiration that I found in her store must still be with me! I started decorating my tree on Sunday with no real vision in mind….all I knew was that I wanted to create a whimsical look with soft colors. What I ended up with is this vintage-esque creation...

2010XMas2
2010XMas2

The flowers were a DIY project...I made them out of craft paper and tissue paper dusted with gold spray paint. (there are 40 of them!)

I glued small glass ornaments in colors of bronze, gold and silver to the center of the flowers.

2010XMas3

Luckily, I was able to use several silver and white ornaments that I already had.

2010XMas6

I purchased several of these rusted crosses at Laurie Anna's...

The framed ornament was an engagement picture and a wedding gift from our friend and photographer Karey Roe with Rink Photo.

The mantle....

Flanked with trees made of branches from Laurie Anna's, glittered garland, an apothecary jar filled with ornaments and of course, more paper flowers.

I found the mirror at Home Goods earlier this year. It was a bright, brassy gold which I did not care for, so I spray painted it this taupy-gold color.

I love our fireplace screen! I found it at Garden Ridge for only $79.00!

To create a bit of contrast, I dressed the back of the book shelves in wrapping paper that I found in the wedding section at Target. I secured it with only 4 pieces of double stick tape so that it can be easily removed after the Holidays.

Dazzling Holiday Windows in NYC!

Well, we are back from a wonderful Thanksgiving vacation to NYC! A great big thanks to my brother, Brad, for hosting us, making restaurant reservations and finding show tickets! (there...I mentioned you in one of my blog posts! Are you happy now?! :-))

We did a lot in 4 days! Had dinner at a few restaurants with great food and FABULOUS decor (which I will share more on later)...

And last but not least, shopped 5th Ave, where I got to take in some of the most beautiful holiday windows!

My favorite by far, was once again Bergdorf Goodman! I was lucky enough to observe their holiday windows last year as well, and I was absolutely blown away! This window was my favorite from last year...everything was made from some sort of reflective surface! Glass, mirror, sequence, etc...absolutely stunning!!

This year seemed to have a sort of travel/nautical theme, which I adored as I LOVE to travel....and my favorite vacations are beach vacations, so this theme was right up my alley!

Here are just a few of Bergdorf's 2010 holiday windows...I borrowed a few of my images from HabituallyChic.blogspot.com as I seemed to get quite a bit of glare in my pics.

Ummm, who sets sail in a navy and white full sequence pant suit? This girl does!

Check out those industrial pendants....I'd love to use those over an island!

Window #3:

My ABSOLUTE favorite! This window represents such a fantasy land for me! I love the ocean...I love to scuba dive to observe how these fabulous creatures live under the surface...and, need I even mention, I love anything that sparkles! I just wanted to jump inside this fabulous abode and call it my own!

Frugal Find of the Week! Trellis Rug

I spotted this fabulous trellis rug about a year ago while surfing the web in an effort to style a living room for one of my clients. Instantly, I fell head over heals in LOVE with it and I just knew had to have it!

source: casasugar.com

Undoubtedly, a rug like this is hard to come by.....especially for a suitable price! I don't like to spend a fortune on rugs....I have 2 sweet puppies that can be destructive, AND I often grow tired of  pieces very easily!  Where could I find something similar without spending thousands of dollars?

Well....never in a million years did I think I would come across something like THIS......

Trellis Rug
Trellis Rug

............especially not at Garden Ridge! And for $99.00 for an 8'x10!?! I was amazed!

Now let's be honest, it's not the softest floor covering in the world....but it might just be exactly what you need to make a statement in your home in an area where you're not looking to spend a ton of cash!

I went ahead and purchased an 8'x10'  for our master as I wanted to bring some color and pattern to the floor. I think it does the trick (for now anyways)! Luca seems to be enjoying it as well!

Obsessing Over White Brick Fireplaces...

More and more people are saying goodbye to their drab, dingy, brick fireplaces and painting them white. I love a painted white fireplace...it freshens and brightens and leaves you with a beautiful blank canvas to style anyway you please! Here are just a few of my favorite looks.... Front Door Infatuation

Lately I've been thinking a lot about painted front doors. When my husband tore down/re-built our house about 6 yrs ago, he opted to keep the original front door. It is a heavy, carved, dark stained door from the 1920's.....it's very unique and we get a ton of compliments on it, but I feel we need to do something to spruce it up a bit. Although paining the door is out of the question, it hasn't stopped me from dreaming about all of the amazing color options. I would love to have a brightly painted turquoise or yellow door.....but....because that particular look doesn't mesh with the facade of our home, I will just have to settle for admiring these beauties from afar...{*sigh*}

This chrome mail slot, door bell and door knocker are s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g against the turquoise paint color!

Frugal Find of the Week Follow-up!

A few weeks ago I had lunch with one of my very first clients (and now friend) Seema, and her adorable baby boy! While talking over Tex-Mex, she mentioned that she was in the market for a sunburst mirror for her Dining Room and that she particularly liked the look of the Devon Mirror from ZGallerie. Having recently spent a day perusing through Garden Ridge, I remembered that I had seen a great sunburst mirror which was similar to the Devon....but of course the one at Garden Ridge was very reasonably priced. In fact, I was in the process of doing a post on this particular mirror for my Frugal Find that week!

So right after lunch, she headed to Garden Ridge to hunt it down. I did warn her that the finish on the mirror from Garden Ridge was quite atrocious....however, as I mentioned in the Frugal Find post....a little spray paint could take this mirror from drab to fab!!

As it turns out, Seema was up for the DIY project, so here are the pictures to document her work....

Here is the mirror before being purchased at Garden Ridge...

Black & White & Pretty All Over

I love black and white anything! Black and white photographs, black and white clothing...but most of all, black and white interiors! It is so classic and sophisticated! Here are some of my favorite rooms designed around this chic color combination.... White walls and black trim...definitely something I will consider when building our next home. I would love to see a black and white zebra rug on those espresso floors.....stunning!

Check out that black wall....and the blank white canvas....so simple yet so chic! I love that they have incorporated a few rustic accessories. We all know rustic accessories are essential around my house! :-)

I mean....really? I'm not sure who is sleeping in here. Twin girls? Or maybe Lucy and Ricky? Whoever it is, I envy them! Loving all of the greek key borders!

I was shocked when I saw this room was Laura Ashley! Are you kidding? When I was a little girl, my bedroom was done in Laura Ashley and it certainly was not this glamorous! Think mauve and green tulips........This black and white number is definitely more my style! And that mirror above the fireplace.....ummm, yes please!

Frugal Find of the Week! Medallion Throw Pillows

Since I've posted about my friend Jenny's Master Bedroom Makeover, I've received several inquires about where we found the medallion fabric for the throw pillows on her bed. Jenny actually found this fabric at Fabric Factory here in Dallas. She loved it so much we decided to design the entire room around it. So we had a few throw pillows made for the bed, and after all was said and done, the pillows ended up costing around $50 each.

A Master Bedroom Makeover!

A couple of months ago, my friend Jenny called me for help with her master bedroom. Jenny, her husband and their son live in a gorgeous home in the Dallas area. They moved in a few years ago, and although they have done a fantastic job decorating their house, their master bedroom was lacking in style. In fact, the only items they had for the room so far was their bed and night stands. Jenny explained that she wanted to add color and sophistication to the room without spending a huge amount of money. Here is the inspiration fabric that she fell in love with.......the colors were exactly what we were looking for! I just love the combination of the aqua blue and apple green...so vibrant! She did a great job selecting this fabric!

Great Fabrics for a DIY Fabric Shade

Over the last week, I have received several inquiries from readers regarding the fabric I used for our window shade in our kitchen. Per my responses to these comments, I purchased the fabric at Fabric Factory in Dallas for $12.99/sy.

Unfortunately, most of you do not live in Dallas, so this information was not of much help to you. HOWEVER....I was bouncing around on Fabric.com a few days ago, and look what I found!! The name of the fabric is Dwell Studio Bella Porte Brindle and it is priced at $15.98/sy. More than what I paid, but still not a bad price!

Holiday Decor Inspiration

It's Novemberrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! (*in my obnoxious Oprah voice*) And I am super excited as this is the month that I start decorating for Christmas! I have recently been surfing the web and thumbing through magazine after magazine to find great inspiration for this year's Holiday decor. Now that our house in finally coming together I am excited to start pulling out all of the decorations and toying with new ideas! Today I want to share with you some of my favorite inspiration pictures in hopes that they will inspire you to begin thinking about your own Holiday decor!

First and foremost, your front door....it's a fun way to let people know what sort of fabulousness to expect inside. I love the idea of doing three wreaths rather than just one...and the candle light in the lanterns will give such a cozy feel at night. Very inviting!

holiday inspiration
holiday inspiration

Wreaths don't have to be made from greenery and pine cones...get creative...be sure that your wreath reflects your own style.

If you want a little more glam, you might go for something like this....... A wreath made of crystal brooches and strands of pearls, does it get more glamorous than that?

Looking for something a little more vintage? How about this wreath made from old book pages....very pretty and sooooo easy to make!

bookpagewreath+020.JPG (1200×1600)

If you have a Christmas tree, it's always fun to decorate it in colors that match your decor. Don't be afraid to for-go expected colors such as red and green. Below are perfect examples of stepping outside of the box to reflect your personal style...

This tree will be perfect for that beach house I've always dreamt of owning....maybe I'll get one for Christmas (pretty please?!)

Add some sparkle with these fun votives...

And these napkin rings from Z Gallerie...

Several weeks ago I was on the prowl for some great accessories for a Bachelor Pad Makeover when I came across this sunburst mirror at Garden Ridge for only $39.99!

Now let's be honest....the finish is terribly unattractive.....but the shape is perfect! And you could easily sand down the frame and paint it in any color you desire! At $39.99 it's certainly worth a shot!!

I am loving this bedroom as well! The color palette is perfection!

Now this is unique! I love that it is slightly more rustic that most other sunbursts you see...

Ummmm.....can you say drama!!! What a great space!

Thanks for stopping by...and happy Friday!
