Before & After: A Masculine Home Office

Two posts in one week?! Boom! I'm trying, y'all! Thanks to Dana & Alli for being the rock stars that they are, I'm hoping to be able to blog a bit more than usual.

If you follow us on Facebook, you've likely seen a few sneak peeks at this project... We were originally hired by this amazing couple to design a handful of rooms in their home. Once we completed those rooms, they contacted us to design their home office. Needless to say, we were thrilled to have the opportunity. Their only request was that the space have a masculine feel since it is primarily the husband's work space.

Here is what we were working with...

Although the space was large, the floors were a combination of carpet and travertine, which actually made the space feel small and choppy.

And the wall of built-ins in the photo below was not functional at all.

So we tore out the floors and replaced them with a 2 1/4" sand & finished hardwood, which also runs throughout a majority of the rest of the house. We also removed the built-ins from the one wall and built more functioning built-ins on the desk wall. We customized the bottom drawers to function as file drawers as well as a printing station.

We selected a dramatic midnight blue for the walls as well as the resin animal heads (no, the skulls are not real) to keep with the masculine feel.

Every man wants a tv in his man space, right? And I am head over heals for those Palecek lamps!

We really wanted to dress the window in something special, so we decided on this amazing F.Schumacher fabric for the custom shades. And don't you just love the contrasting navy piping on the seat cushion?!

We certainly hope our clients enjoy living in this space as much as we enjoyed designing it!
